The Challenge: minimize tree loss and damage during extensive site excavation and construction.
A city ordinance mandates “no net loss of trees” resulting from any construction on city property. Newport Public Library is located in a two-acre inner-city park containing numerous specimen trees over a hundred years old.
New Construction:
- 20,000 sq. ft. addition – ADA compliant
- Re-design/re-engineer the roof structure to streamline the building’s appearance.
- Add clearstory windows at the roofline to capture natural light
- Incorporate kitchen facilities and community meeting rooms
Renovations:
- 20,000 sq. ft. – ADA compliant
- Parking area reconstruction
- Complete asbestos abatement
