On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, the YMCA hosted the preview opening of the De Ramel Family Squash Center. The opening of this facility completes the transformational project that has been underway for the past 18 months transforming an aged facility into an amazing and current athletic & wellness facility. 

The YMCA project is the largest community construction project that has taken place on Aquidneck Island. This 18-million-dollar project consists of extensive renovation, new building additions, parking lots, storm drainage improvements, and utility upgrades. 

The project took place during the most challenging times the construction industry has faced, including Covid, material instability -cost increases, supply chain, and trucking shortages. The Farrar team met these challenges head-on with skillful planning, navigating the project to its successful completion. 

The Farrar team developed phasing plans that allowed the YMCA to remain open throughout construction. This was complicated, however, most appreciated by YMCA staff and its patrons avoiding employee layoffs and facility closure. Keeping the facility operational also brought the staff and its members closer to the project and a higher level of appreciation for the efforts of the design & construction team. 

Despite the unprecedented challenges that were presented throughout the construction industry during this unprecedented time, this project was completed on time and under the established budget. 

 Farrar's experience surpassing 35 years of constructing significant projects throughout Aquidneck Island, this project brings a high level of pride and accomplishment. The project is a true tribute to the community, the success is further demonstrated with enrollment at an all-time high and only increasing. 

Farrar is presently planning the reconstruction and building additions to the existing daycare facility located at the South end of the YMCA property. Groundbreaking is tentatively planned for early fall 2023.
